MEXICO - Leon L. Valley, 78, former resident of Mexico, died Friday at his home, Sherman St. Watertown, where he resided 10 years. Mr Valley, a native of Cape Vincent, was a retired farmer and formerly served as custodian of Mexico Central School. He was a son of Jerry and Henrietta Humphrey Valley. He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church of Watertown. Surviving besides his wife, Mrs. Jessie Kissel Valley, are two sons, Richard of Dryden and James of Mexico; a daughter, Mrs. Floyd Schaefer of Watertown a brother, Elton of Cape Vincent; a sister, Mrs. Jay McCurdy. Burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.

February 22, 2005 Lester V. Dewey, age 84 of Forest Dr., Pulaski, died Tuesday at Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton. He was born on April 17, 1920 in Ripley, NY, the son of Leon and Elizabeth VanOstrand Dewey. He previously lived in Fredonia moving to Pulaski in 1946. He graduated from Ripley High School in 1938 and attended SUNY Fredonia. He served in the US Marines as a pilot from 1941 to 1946. He married Mary Lou Woods on November 15, 1942. He was employed by Burke Home Center in Oswego, retiring in 1990. He was a former member of Ringgold Fire Department and Pulaski VFW Post #7289. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou; two daughters, Ann Foard of Lovettsville, VA, Jane Gotowka of West Henrietta; one son, Robert Dewey of Livonia; one sister, Marilyn Bretz of Port Charlotte, FL; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski. Donations may be made to NOCA, Delano St., Pulaski 13142.

Flomayne Nitterright, 89, of Greensburg, formerly of Armbrust, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in RNC at Greater Pittsburgh in Greensburg. She was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Tarrs, a daughter of the late John and Pearl (Reeder) Haines. She retired from Excela Westmoreland Hospital. She enjoyed bingo and watching the Steelers and NASCAR. Surviving are her six children, Pearl A. Yuhouse and husband, Joseph W., of New Stanton, Beverly J. Nitterright, of Youngwood, Connie L. Nitterright, of Mt Pleasant, Charles R. Nitterright, of Mt Pleasant, Mari K. Payne and husband, William L., of Laplate, Md., and Fredrick A. Nitterright and wife, Michele L., of Greensburg; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick R. Nitterright; daughter, Agnus R. Nitterright; and one grandson. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood with the Rev Dale L. Porterfield officiating.

Francis E. Spencer, 82, of Conifer Drive, Baldwinsville, died Thursday at home.

Born in Syracuse, he was a life resident of the Syracuse area. He retired from Pepsi Co., East Syracuse. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors: His wife, Eleanor Elliott Spencer; three daughters, Margaret A. Sherwood of Warners, Dorothy Graulich of Levittown, Pa., and Eleanor E. Hill of Baldwinsville; three sons, Frank E. and Edward J., both of Warners, and Charles E. of Baldwinsville; a sister, Dorothy Nicolini of Marcellus; two brothers, John J. of Camillus and Charles E. of Bangor, Maine; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Falardeau Funeral Home. Burial, Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners. Calling hours, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 93 Downer St., Baldwinsville.

Frank A. Jescavage, 73, of Fairmount Township, Benton, and Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away peacefully at Fox Chase Cancer Center Wednesday morning, Oct. 23, 2013.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Frank and Jennie Jesikiewicz (Jescavage). He was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1958.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and served on board the USS Cassin Young, which is now anchored in Boston Harbor next to the USS Constitution.

He worked as a manufacturer's representative in the automotive aftermarket industry, where he garnered many sales awards. He retired in 1996 from Autoreps Inc., Cherry Hill, N.J.

He was a longtime member of the Train Collectors Association of America, and was an avid collector of Lionel HO trains. He was known in toy train circles as "Plasticville Frank" and "The Mayor of Plasticville." He served as an assistant scoutmaster, president of the Warrior Run/Askam Community Service Association, was a member of the Hanover Area Quarterback Club, Hanover Area Band Parents Association, and was past president of the Shickshinny Lake Association. He was a social member of the American Legion, Shickshinny. He was also chairman of the 55th reunion committee of the Meyers High School Class of 1958.

Frank was a member of Holy Spirit Parish at St. Martha's Church, Stillwater, where he served as director of altar servers, lector and sacristan. He was also lector and director of altar servers at Holy Family Parish, Sugar Notch.

Frank was extremely proud of his Polish heritage. He journeyed to Poland in 1989, where he toured various historical sites and met Lech Walesa, president of Poland, and Cardinal Glemp, the Polish primate of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was an avid fisherman, loved animals and traveling.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Georgette Mary Jescavage.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jane Johns, the love of his life. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in August. He is also survived by his daughter, Camille H. Jescavage and her companion, Jack Adams, Hunlock Creek; a son, Frank A. Jescavage and his wife, Rhonda, Edmond, Okla.; a daughter, Melaniejane J. Yozwiak and her husband, Charles, Pittston Township; grandchildren, Justin F. Jescavage and his wife, Randa, Edmond, Okla.; Brittany D. Jescavage, Edmond, Okla.; Mallory J. Yozwiak, Pittston Township; and Meredith A. Yozwiak, Pittston Township; numerous nieces and nephews; and his three cats.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Martha's Parish, Stillwater.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.

Frank BROWN was born in Calhoun Co, MI 12 Mar 1865 and died 11 Jun1909 of Typhoid Fever at the home of his sister Mrs. T. CORNWELL of Greenville. He spent his boyhood days in Nelson and in later years has been a shingle weaver in Northern Michigan.

Funeral was held at the Congregational Church of East Nelson and the remains laid beside his sister in DeCau Cemetery.

He leaves two sons in Grand Rapids, a mother, Mrs. P.F. BROWN, and three sisters, Mrs. William BUSH of Big Rapids, Mrs. T. CORNWELL of Greenville, and Mrs. C.A. DURFEY of Cedar Springs.

Besides Mrs. MUTCHLER, he is survived by one other daughter, Mrs. Orval CURTISS of Comstock Park; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah DOHM of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Mary WOLFORD of Grand Ledge; and one brother, John, of Florida. Mr. DURFEY reposes at the VanStreen-Alman mortuary, pending funeral arrangements.

Obituary of Frank E. Trendell

Frank Trendell went to be with his Lord on August 13, 2020, at home in Oswego, NY.

Late of Oswego, NY, Frank was born to William and Rosina Thomas Trendell on December 8, 1927, in Syracuse, NY. His parents came from Surrey and Cornwall, England, respectively, in 1910, meeting first in Syracuse. Frank was the youngest of their seven children and last survivor.

Growing up in the Park Hill section of East Syracuse, he graduated from East Syracuse High School in 1945. After serving in the U.S. Army, he entered Syracuse University in 1947 and graduated with a bachelor’s in civil engineering in 1951. He was married to Eleanor Price Zufelt in June of that year, in St. James Episcopal Church, Pulaski, NY.

He retired from the N.Y. State Department of Transportation in 1988. From his youth to his senior years, he enjoyed times spent camping in the Adirondacks, especially with his children and grandchildren, organizing family outdoor activities. He was a member of the Adirondack Forty-Sixers, and the Adirondack Nature Conservancy and Land Trust.

Besides his parents, Frank was predeceased by his wife Eleanor on January 5, 2020, sisters Frances Mary (infant) and Marjorie Ross of Las Vegas, NV, brothers Harold and Charles of East Syracuse, William of Portland, OR, Albert of Minoa, NY, a daughter-in-law, Janice (Auringer) Trendell of Constantia, NY, and son-in-law, Robert Woodson of Indianapolis, IN.

He is survived by his children: John (Mary) of East Aurora, NY, James (companion, Karen Demuccio-Rozelle) of Pleasant Valley, NY, Robert of West Monroe, NY, Joan of Indianapolis, IN, and Linda (companion, Russ Odom), of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren: Maggie (Tom) Lee, Molly (Blake) Nation, Marta (Kevin) Kaighin, Philip (Lesley), Rebecca (Zack) Richards, Jason and Jeffrey; two great granddaughters, Claire Eleanor and Natalie Rose Trendell and a great grandson William Oliver Trendell.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Oswego, NY, and a past member of St. James Episcopal Church in Pulaski, NY, where he served as a lector, chalice bearer and vestry member. While living in Pulaski, he was a board member and treasurer for the Pulaski Historical Society and Daysville Cemetery Association.

Services will be at the graveside at Daysville Cemetery, Town of Richland, NY, Saturday, August 15 at 11:00 AM, with the Reverend Anne Wichelns officiating. COVID-19 safety guidelines will be observed. Arrangements provided by Foster Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, NY 13142

Frederick “Rick” Endsley, Jr., age 73, resident of Altmar since 1970, passed away Friday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse. Rick was born October 21, 1947, in Oswego, the son of Frederick and Dorothy (Ostrander) Endsley, Sr. He attended Pulaski Schools. Rick was employed by the Fulton Companies in Pulaski for 35 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the Defiance Fire Department in Altmar for 35 years and a former member of the Oswego County ATV Club.

Surviving, are his daughter, Melissa (Charles) LeRoy of Sandy Creek, one son, Scott Endsley of Altmar, one brother, Steve Endsley of Wisconsin and one sister Deborah Wade of Alabama.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, October 14th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski, with burial at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the funeral.

Frieda M (Mead) Janacek November 5, 2020 Frieda Mead Janacek, of Sandy Creek, NY went to her heavenly reward on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Frieda was born in Boylston, NY on August 10, 1934. She was the daughter of E. Walter and Charlotte Yerdon Mead. She married Roland H Janacek at Vorea Community Church in Orwell on April 4, 1953. Frieda was a graduate of Sandy Creek Central School in 1952. She worked at the telephone company in Syracuse before having children. She and her husband worked at Janacek Auction Service and Pulaski Roller Drome for many years. She was a devoted member of Vorea Community Church where she served as Sunday School Teacher, Assistant Treasurer and in many other areas. Frieda is survived by her husband Roland, two daughters; Roxanne & Perry Ferguson of Boylston, Renee & Shawn Garvin of Orwell, and a son Rod & Kelly (Rossa) Janacek of Sarasota, FL, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; Rachel & Stephen Allen (Logan & Shane), Amanda & Josh Altoran (Adalina), Emily & Jon Bushie (Colton, Teghan & Magnolia), Shannon & Ben Fisher, Mitchell Garvin, Michael Garvin. She is also survived by her sisters; Eleanor & John LaCelle, Virginia & Herbert Smith and Wanda Bishop, a sister in law Dolores Hall and a multitude of much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Her son Russell Mead Janacek passed away on June 26, 2019. She was a resident of Samaritan Keep Nursing Home in Watertown for the past 8 years where she was cared for by a loving staff. She touched lives with her loving and gentle spirit. FULTON VETERAN DIED IN HOSPITAL
Delos DURFEY Was a Former Well Known Boatman

Fulton, Nov 19 - Delos DURFEY, aged 79, a Civil War veteran and lifelong resident of the towns of Granby and Volney, died this afternoon at 1 o'clock at the City Hospital after an illness there of more than a year.

For the last month of Mr. DURFEY's condition had been grave. Mr. DURFEY's death was due largely to his advanced age.

Mr. DURFEY was well known in this section. He had two farms in Volney and drove to town every day. He retired from farming only two years ago.

In the Civil War he fought at Gettysburg in a company of which more than three-fourths of the men perished.

For more than twenty years he was a boatman on the Oswego river and had a wide acquaintance among boatman all over the Great Lakes. He was born in Granby and lived for many years in a section of Granby that is now Gansevoort street, this city.

Mr. DURFEY is survived by one brother, Albert DURFEY, a partner in his farming enterprises; one son, Frank DUR

TELLMANN GEORGE JOHN TELLMANN,JR. (Age 86) Of Fleming Island, Florida, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015. George was born August 8, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to George and Susanna Tellmann. George was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Constabulary Forces in Germany at the close of WWII. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BA in Business and earned a Master's Degree in International Relations from American University in Washington, DC. George's career in Communications began in Dublin, Georgia where he spent five years as an Announcer and Engineer at WMLT - Dublin Broadcasting Company. He spent the next fifteen years with AT&T conducting overseas operations and negotiations related to the first transatlantic telephone cables. In 1968, George moved to Comsat Corporation where he managed operations and negotiations for communication satellites, representing the United States in the International Telecommunication Satellite organization "Intelsat" and the International Maritime Satellite organization "Inmarsat" for which he was later chairman of the Inmarsat Council. In 1988, he retired from Comsat as Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Satellite Communication to become President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Mobile Satellite Corporation (AMSC). In 1990 he became Vice Chairman of AMSC, advising the AMSC Board until 1998. In 1992 George founded the Inmarsat Users Association (now called the Mobile Satellite Users Association) and served as its President and Chief Executive Officer until 1994. From 1994 - 2000 he served on the Board of Directors for Arrowhead Space and Communications Corporation. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards including Certificate of Achievement for Superior Contributions in Support of the Apollo Program, Medallion in Recognition of Outstanding effort in Support of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Skylab Achievement Award, Certificate of Appreciation for Superior Contributions in Support of the First NASA Space Shuttle Mission (Columbia) and Commendation from the Chairman of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee for outstanding participation in its National Coordinating Mechanism Task Force. George was kind and compassionate, loved by all, especially his wife of 66 years, Mia. In addition, George is survived by his children, George Tellmann (Karen) of Fleming Island, FL, Jeff Tellmann of Cheshire, CT and Peter Tellmann, of Herndon, VA. Loving grandfather of Kristin Hungerford (Matthew), Michael Tellmann, Jeffrey Tellmann, Jr. (Jessica) and Nicole Bremer (Thomas); and great grandfather of Parker Tellmann. George is also survived by his brother, Rudy Tellmann (Mary) of Hatboro, PA. A Memorial service will be held this summer at Arlington National Cemetery. Gladys N. Prouty Whaley, 88, Springbrook Apartments, died Tuesday at her home.

Mrs. Whaley had resided in Pulaski since 1960, previously living in Belleville for eight years and Smithville for several years. She had worked at Ezze Truck Stop in Parish, Oswego Hospital and Marty's Restaurant in Adams.

Born March 13, 1918, in Rodman, she was a daughter of Leon and Bertha Babbitt Prouty.

She married Lloyd Whaley on April 1, 1945, in Adams. He died Nov. 7, 1974.

She was a member of American Legion Post 358 Auxiliary, Pulaski, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7289 Auxiliary, Park United Methodist Church, and was an RSVP volunteer for Pulaski Senior Nutrition Site.

Surviving are three sons, Leon H., West Monroe, James D., Pulaski, and Dale L., Williamstown; three daughters, Monica Laney, Albany, Lucy Johnson, Syracuse, and Peggy Balcom, Pulaski; a sister, Patricia Ryder, Fayetteville, N.C., 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A son, David, died Oct. 2, 1964.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Park United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marilyn Stevens officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Pulaski Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home.

HYDE PARK - Gloria Jean Pottenburgh, 78, a resident of Hyde Park and formerly of Rhinebeck, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck.
Jean and her husband owned and operated C and P Construction for fifty years. She was also the office manager for Pottenburgh and Sons and the former Pottenburgh Market, both in Hyde Park.
A lifelong area resident, she attended the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rhinebeck.
Jean loved tending to her flower garden.
Born in Rhinebeck on April 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Ruth Woster Briggs.
On June 7, 1947 in Poughkeepsie, she married Donald F. Pottenburgh Sr. Mr. Pottenburgh survives at home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Donna Jean Hutchings and husband, Harold, of Poughkeepsie, Donald F. Pottenburgh Jr. of Hyde Park, and Michael F. Pottenburgh Jr. and wife, Jean, of Red Hook; her grandchildren, Donald F. Pottenburgh III, Richard A. Pottenburgh, Michael Pottenburgh Jr., Kimberly Hutchings, and Michele and Stephanie Pottenburgh; her great granddaughter, Emily Pottenburgh; her brother, John of Arizona; her sister, Cecilia of San Jose, CA; her step-brother, Larry Chorvas; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Briggs.
Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 Pm, Thursday, Sept. 27th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Friday, Sept. 28th at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the family plot in Rhinebeck Cemetery.

Martineau November 10, 2005 H. Robert "Zeke" Martineau died Friday, November 10, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 13 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Zeke was born November 17, 1931 in Syracuse, NY to Harold A. and Gertrude W. Martineau and graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School in 1949. He attended St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, then served four years in the U.S. Navy before returning his hometown to attend Syracuse University. He graduated in 1959 with a bachelor of science in business administration. His professional career started at the Herald-Journal newspaper in advertising sales; he then moved to Mobil Oil as a commercial salesman. He left upstate New York in 1966 to take a position at Mobil's corporate headquarters in New York City. Zeke later moved to Greensboro, NC and started his own business in 1980. He retired in 2000, spending much of his time traveling; volunteering at his church, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, where he was involved with the Knights of Columbus and his Small Church Community; working in his yard and enjoying his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith Lambert Martineau; his two daughters, Suzanne M. Rook and her husband, Tony, of Wake Forest and Kathryn M. Adams and her husband, Clay, of Astoria, N.Y.; five sons, Andrew and his wife, Kathy, of Plano, Texas; Daniel and his wife, Elaine; William and his wife, Stacy; James and his wife, Jennifer; Matthew, and his wife, Kristian, all of Greensboro; 17 grandchildren, Bob, Andy and Meghan Rook, all of Wake Forest; Drew, Patrick, Jacob and Tim Martineau, all of Plano, Texas; Joseph, Michael, Sean, Paul, Sophie, Sarah, Christopher, Grace, Eric and Elise Martineau, all of Greensboro; and numerous other beloved relatives and friends.

Harold A. Gilson, 87

Harold A. Gilson, 87, of 7405 Port Street, Pulaski, died Thursday evening, September 22, 1983, in Oswego Hospital where he had been admitted that morning.

Born May 20, 1896 at New. Haven a son of Willard and Eva Adams Gilson, he was graduated from Mexico Academy High School and married Louella Allen. She died Sept. 22, 1970, 13 years to the day, prior to Mr. Gilson's death.

Mr. Gilson married Lula Vincent April 20, 1971.

He had owned and operated the Port Ontario Bait Shop and worked several years for the Oswego County Highway Department, retiring in 1968.

He was a member of Pulaski Lodge 648 I.O.O.F., and was a past member and president of the Ringgold Fire Department and a former member of the Albion Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife, Lula; a son, Harold A. Jr., Pulaski; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Erwin and Donald Vincent, Fulton; 11 step-grandchildren and several step-greatgrandchildren.

A private funeral was held Monday at the Foster-Hax Funeral
Home, Pulaski, with Rev. Virgil Hager, pastor of First Baptist Church, Sandy Creek, officiating.

Burial was in South Richland Cemetery, Fernwood.

Betty D. Martin, 81, life resident of Orwell, died Saturday in Oswego. She was born October 18, 1926, in the town of Orwell. She graduated from Sandy Creek High School in 1944 and married Robert D. Martin Sr. on November 12, 1948; he died February 24, 2002. She was the town of Orwell historian and librarian. BLOOMFIELD, N. J., April 6 - Charles C. Tabor, retired merchant of Sinton, Texas, and for two years a resident of Bloomfield, died today at the home of his son, Fenner L. Tabor, 26 Hickory Street, from heart disease. He was born in New York sixty-eight years ago. Two sons and two daughters survive . His funeral will be held from the Church of the Sacred Heart on Monday morning.

Helen Constance MacSwan, formerly of Corvallis, died Friday in Oregon City. She was 83.

She was born to Thomas and Helen White in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

She married Iain C. MacSwan on Feb. 17, 1943. In 1955, they moved to Corvallis, where they lived for 49 years.

Helen, or Peggy, as she was known by her family and close friends, worked as a medical transcriptionist for Student Health Services at Oregon State University for more than 20 years. She retired in 1984.

She was active in the community and volunteered at the Chintimini Senior Center as a dispatcher for Dial-A-Bus, and at the Vina Moses Center.

In 2004, she moved to Somerset Assisted Living in Gladstone, near the home of her daughter, Cathie. She also lived briefly at Mountain View Rehabilitation and Living Center in Oregon City.

Helen enjoyed sewing, knitting, bridge and gardening. She liked to visit her family and friends in Canada, Alaska and Oregon. She was fond of the retirement years she spent in Point Roberts, Wash.

Helen is survived by her children and their spouses, Neil T. and Marcia MacSwan of Nooksack, Wash., Catherine A. and Jesse Kappel of Gladstone, and Margot E. and Bill Henderson of Eagle River, Alaska; and grandchildren, Brian, Scott, Ryan and Caitlin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Iain; parents, Thomas and Helen White; sister, Gwen Derry; brother, William White; and two other brothers.

She will be lovingly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home. A brief reception will follow at the funeral home.

Henry A. King, Sr., age 60, resident of Lacona, since 1973, passed away Sunday at his home. Henry was born June 24, 1961, in Fulton, the son of Samuel and Shirley Corey King. He graduated from Sandy Creek High School. He was employed by Arise in Oswego for several years.

Surviving are his son, Henry (Ashley) King, Jr., of Hannibal, one grandson, Harlo King, three sisters, Beverly Harten of Lacona and Ella King and Wanda Parsons both of Sandy Creek, one brother, John King of Lacona and several aunts and uncles.

Obituary for Mae Forbes
Massena- Mrs. Mae E. Forbes, 88, of 112 Cook Street, peacefully passed away Tuesday evening, April 26, 2011, at her home with her family at her side. She had been in failing health in the past few years.
Mae was born December 30, 1922, Lawrenceville, NY, the daughter of Edson and Mabel Russell Lindsey. She attended a one room school house in Lawrenceville. On April 29, 1944, she married Winfred G. Forbes, at the Racquette River Methodist Church with Rev. Earl B. Liscome officiating. He predeceased her on March 19, 1995.
She owned and operated a dairy farm with her late husband from 1944-1964. She also worked at Montgomery Ward in Massena. She later worked as a waitress at the 284 Club in Massena; The Crossroads in Moira and the Dew Drop up in Potsdam. She was a long time member of the Brasher Falls United Methodist Church where she served as a superintendent of Sunday School for 17 years. She also taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School. Mae was a 68 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, first belonging to the Laurentian Chapter #666 until merging with Cretona Chapter #516. In addition, she was a member or the United Methodist Women and enjoyed collecting frog memorabilia. Mae also loved gardening, doing crossword puzzles, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mae is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, DeWitt G. and Diane of Massena; Robert W. and Katherine of Brasher Falls; Four grandchildren, Jason, Brent, Sondra, and Danny; six great grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and five great step grandchildren. In addition she is survived by her sister, Rita Barber and her companion, Randy of Potsdam and her brother, Edson Lindsey of Esperance, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by five brothers, Lawrence, Earl, Waterson, Kenneth, and Robert Lindsey; and two sisters, Laura and Celica Lindsey.
Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena where funeral services will be held Saturday 2:00 with Rev. Harold Wheat, officiating. The members of the Eastern Star will meet at 7:15 PM Friday for a memorial ritual. Burial will follow the services in Racquette River Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Mr. James Edward Fellows, 68, of Clark Mills, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. James was born in Marianna, FL, on April 30, 1946, the son of Clyde and Vedora (Nichols) Fellows. He was raised and educated in Florida and was a graduate of Marianna High School. James proudly served in the US Air Force from 1964-1968. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he continued his education at Mohawk Valley Community College. At one time, James was married to Donna Kingsbury Fellows. On April 5, 1993, he married Barbara Hornyak Donahue. For 32 years, James was employed with Niagara Mohawk Power Company, retiring in 2004. After retirement, he went to work as a security guard with Utica College, a job he enjoyed for 10 years. In his younger years, James enjoyed hunting, but his true passion was fishing. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who received his greatest joy spending time with his grandsons, Ryan and William, who were the light of his life. Mr. Fellows is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jill and Carl Bauernfeind, of Whitesboro, and Linda Fellows and her fiance, Tony Southerland, of Greenville, SC; two cherished grandsons, Ryan Bauernfeind and William Bauernfeind, both of Whitesboro; one sister, Joye Joiner, of Lakeland, FL; one sister-in-law, Linda Fellows, of FL; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Hugh Fellows. In keeping with James' wishes, there are no calling hours and services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. January 28, 2007 Joshua A. Shampine, 23, of St. Mary's, formerly of Pulaski, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Joshua was born February 23, 1983, in Watertown, the son of Jimmie and Tammy Kinney Shampine. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 2001 and resided in Pulaski until entering the U.S. Navy in September 2001. He was an electronic technician, first class, with the United States Navy for five years and was stationed at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, on the USS Wyoming. He was an artist and loved playing the guitar. Survivors: his wife, Brandy Lee Shampine, and a son, Jason Alexander Shampine, both of Conway, SC; his father, Jimmie Shampine of Hinesville, GA; his mother, Tammy Shampine of Parish, NY; a sister, Melissa Shampine of Pulaski; grandparents, Keiko and Charles Shampine of Gouverneur, NY, and Carol and Richard Kinney of Pulaski; a nephew; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Obituary of Jean Mathison

Jean J. Mathison, age 76, resident of Lacona, NY passed away Saturday, June 30th, following a lengthy battle with COPD. Jean was born on November 24, 1941, the daughter of Albert and Janet Bentley Johnson. She graduated from Pulaski Academy and Central School in 1959. Jean spent many years as Secretary to the Principal at Pulaski High School before being employed by Stone & Webster, and eventually retiring from her position as an Executive Assistant at Motorola in Phoenix, AZ.

Jean is survived by her husband of 34 years, who she married December 30, 1983, Henry “Chris” Mathison; three children, Jeffrey D. Nash of Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer (Steven) Cole, of Pulaski, NY, Kristian A. Mathison of Tucson, AZ; three grandchildren, John C. “JC” King, Jeffrey N. King, and Andrew W. Ball; two sisters, Carol (Robert) Dickson of Akron, NY, Gail Johnson of Lacona, NY, and brother Albert R. (Debi) Johnson of Pulaski, NY, and several nieces and nephews, and her mother in-law Marilyn Mathison of Pulaski, Jean was predeceased by a previous husband, John M. “Jack” Nash who died in 1982.

Jerry F. Higby, age 77, life resident of Pulaski, passed away Thursday at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse. Jerry was born March 8, 1941 in Lowville, the son of Willis and Dorothy Hill Higby. He graduated from Pulaski High School in 1959 and Morrisville College in 1961. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 until 1966. Jerry was married to Gloria Ann Bouchard on August 23, 1971. He was employed by Schoeller Technical Papers. He was previously employed by Miller Brewery for 18 years, from 1977 until 1995. He had also been employed by GE in Syracuse. Jerry was a member of the Woodworkers Association in Syracuse.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria, children, Jennifer (Evan) Lynch of Pulaski, Jerry (Angela) Higby of Fort Myers, FL, Daniel (Suzanne) Higby of Fort Myers, FL, and Sheldon (Nicole) Higby of Pulaski, nine grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Noah Smith, William Higby, Isabella Higby, Hannah Higby, Alexander Higby, Finian Higby, Orrin Higby and Prairie Higby, three brothers, John (Carolyn) Higby of Oswego, Adelbert Higby of Pulaski and Douglas (Claudia) Higby of Pulaski, three sisters, Sandra Tidwell of Pulaski, Janet (Steven) Banks of Boonville, and Mary (Kenneth) Staffan of Fairport. Jerry was predeceased by two brothers, James and Willard Higby.

A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Monday, February 18th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski burial at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, prior to the service.

Joan E. Antrim, 69, of Reading, passed away April 10, 2010 at 7:53 p.m. in her residence of natural causes. Joan was born in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Charles and Ann (Johnson) Kulp. She was the wife of Gary W. Antrim. She worked in the sealing and packing department at L.E.G., Inc. in Reading for 14 years, retiring in 2002. She attended the Salvation Army and was also a volunteer. Survivors: husband; daughters, Ginger A. Antrim of Allentown, Lisa L. (Wagner) Marsh of Allentown, Cindy L. (Wagner) Hoffa of Kutztown; son, Gary W. Antrim, Jr. of Emmaus; step sons, Ryan W. Antrim of Pittsburgh and Gary C. Antrim of California; six grandchildren; brother, Kenny Kulp of Reading; step brother, William Broadhurst of Bethlehem. Services: Services from Whelan Schwartz Funeral Home, 444 North 9th Street, Reading, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Obituary of Joan F. McNitt

Joan F. McNitt, age 76, life resident of Pulaski passed away Thursday at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Joan was born October 24, 1943 in Pulaski, the daughter of Arthur and Florence May King Nutting. She graduated from Pulaski High School in 1961. Joan married Elmer LeRoy McNitt on October 15, 1962 and he passed away February 11, 1999. She was employed by the C&M Restaurant for 44 years. Joan was an avid Bingo player and volunteered at the Ringgold Field Days for many years.

Surviving are her children Rick (Linda) McNitt of Pulaski, Karen (Paul) Glenister of Pulaski, Rodney (Jodi) McNitt of Pulaski and Brian McNitt of Hastings, grandchildren, Kourtney (Rick) Oshier, Alicia (Matt) Richardson, Andrew (Katy) McNitt, Gabrielle Glenister, Megan (Jack) Himes, Adam McNitt, Kyle and Spencer Glenister, Matthew McNitt and Cory and Kierra McNitt, great-grandchildren, Madison, Ashleigh and Kayleigh Oshier, Grace, Eli and Claire Richardson, Jack and Louise Himes, Owen McNitt and Charlie McNitt, sisters, Grace Caufield of Sandy Creek, Joyce (Ken) Widrick of Adams, Barbara (Carl) Lehtonen of Central Square, Betty Jean Nutting of Sandy Creek and Darlene (Richard) Denny of Sandy Creek and her brother Bruce Nutting of Altmar. Joan was predeceased by several siblings and half-siblings.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at Calvary Baptist Church in Pulaski with burial in South Richland Cemetery Fernwood. Arrangements by Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, Pulaski.

A celebration of life reception will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, August 31st, at the Ringgold Field, Pulaski.

John R. "Jack" Ramsey

Obituary Condolences
John R. "Jack" Ramsey, 75, of Mexico, died Thursday at his home. He was born in Oswego, son of the late John H. and Mildred Preman Ramsey. He was owner and operator of Ramsey's Dept. Store in Mexico for many years.

Surviving: two daughters, Cathy (John) O'Brien of Mexico and Laura Flint of Waterloo; four grandchildren, David, Luke, Katie and Austin; one sister, Nancy Murray of Mexico and one niece, Miok Murray.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Harter Funeral Home, Mexico. Spring burial will be in Mexico Village Cemetery.

Obituary of John R. Kane

John R. Kane, age 89, resident of Richland since 2000, passed away Tuesday at his home. John was born September 26, 1931 in Rochester the son of John and Amelia Carter Kane. He attended Rochester schools. John served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1955 during the Korean War. John was married to Patricia in 2004 and she passed away March 11, 2008. He was employed as a roofer for 35 years with Roofer Local #22 in Rochester. He worked for Elmer Davis Roofing and Stern Roofing for many years.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Green of North Rose, three sons, Bert and Keith Cronk both of Altmar and Michael Kane of Wolcott, two sisters, Jesse Brook of Spencerport and Patricia Elschker of Rochester, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, November 13th at the Foster-Hax Funeral Home, 52 Park Street, with burial in Richland Cemetery with military honors. A calling hour will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
